By India Today Web Desk: A day ahead of Diwali, the air quality of Delhi remained under the ‘poor’ category as the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 218 on Sunday morning, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR)-India.
The air quality in the Delhi-NCR region is likely to plummet to the ‘very poor’ category by Monday, October 24.
The air quality was in the poor category on Friday and Saturday as well. Every year, the air quality worsens from October due to various reasons, such as the burning of stubble and smog.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.
The meteorological conditions will also remain unfavourable on Diwali day for Delhi. Neither wind speed, mixing depth nor the ventilation index will be supportive in dispersing the pollutants. Add fireworks to the mix, the air quality might reach the ‘severe’ category.
