By Gopi Maniar Ghanghar : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have swung into rallies and preparations for the election of the Gujarat Assembly. Despite having the BJP in power for the last 27 years, even today there are eight seats that the saffron party has never been able to win since independence.
The BJP has claimed the party is slated to secure 182 seats in the impending polls. Find out why the BJP has never been able to register a victory in these seats.
For the BJP in Gujarat, Borsad, Jhagdia, Ankalav, Danilimda, Mahudha, Garbada and Vyara are seats that the BJP has been eyeing. In fact, after the separation of Gujarat from Maharashtra in 1960, elections started in 1962, and only Congress won here.
In the Borsad seat of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, elections have been held 15 times, including two by-elections. In which the independent candidate won in 1962. Since then, only Congress has secured the seat. On the other hand, if we talk about the Jhagdia seat, from 1962 to 2017 elections have been held 13 times. In which the candidates of Congress, Janata Dal, Janata Dal-U and BTP had won, but BJP has not won till today.
Chhotu Vasava has been winning elections here since 1990. In the Vyara seat, there have been 14 elections with one by-election there. And Congress has won all the elections.
At the same time, the BJP has never won tribal seats like Mahudha and Garbada.
The interesting thing is that in all these seats, the Danilimda seat of the urban area of Ahmedabad, while all the seats are from the tribal area, the BJP has not been able to make a dent in the vote bank of the Tribal Congress.
