According to close friends, both his kidneys have failed. This thing has been revealed in the medical test 2 days back. His treatment is going on at home and dialysis is also going on.
Shyam Benegal was healthy till some time back. He was constantly planning his projects. He has a film with the Government of Bangladesh titled Mujib: The Making of a Nation based on the life of Mujibur Rahman, the first President of Bangladesh. However, due to controversies, its release is constantly getting postponed.
Shyam Benegal said – I am not well
Shyam Benegal himself has confirmed that he is unwell. In a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, he said, ‘I am not well (I am not healthy). Am on bed rest. My medication is going on. This has been diagnosed recently.
However, he did not say that he had a kidney problem. The people of Shyam’s office also said that till a few days ago, Sahab’s health was fine. Surely he is not coming for the last two-three days. Apart from Mujeeb, he has not started any other project.
Shyam Benegal has given dozens of great films like Zubaida, The Making of the Mahatma, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero, Mandi, Aarohan, Welcome to Sajjanpur. His films have won 8 National Awards. He has also received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

24 films, 45 documentaries and 1500 ad films
Shyam made his directorial debut with the 1974 film Ankur, before which he worked as a copywriter. So far Shyam has made 24 films, 45 documentaries and 15 ad films. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1976 for his contribution to the film world. Apart from this, he has 8 National Awards in his account. He holds the record of winning the maximum number of National Awards. He has also been awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the biggest honor in the film industry in 2005. He was given the Padma Bhushan in 1991.

Shyam Benegal is the cousin of Guru Dutt.
Shyam Sundar Benegal was born on 14 December 1934 in a middle class family in Hyderabad. He is the cousin of famous actor and filmmaker Guru Dutt. Shyam’s father was fond of still photography and often used to take pictures of children. MA in Economics After doing this he started doing photography. Before making the first film ‘Ankur’, he had made many ad films for ad agencies.

Shyam Benegal’s films produced some of the finest actors in Indian cinema, including Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Amrish Puri, Anant Nag, Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil and cinematographer Govind Nihalani. Apart from making documentaries on Jawaharlal Nehru and Satyajit Ray, he also directed serials ‘Yatra’, ‘Katha Sagar’ and ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’ for Doordarshan.
